After aeration it is perfectly okay to overseed. The lawn will get more oxygen and nutrients and be better prepared to grow healthy. In this case the lawn will need to be watered consistently once the overseed process has been completed. The condition of your lawn will determine if overseeding is necessary or if it could possibly wait for another year.
If you want a healthy lawn aeration is the best way to go. This process combats excessive thatch and loosens up the soil in the lawn. This allows the oxygen to circulate through the roots.
